VIDEO The Fray "Heartless ( Kanye West cover )

Great cover of Kanye West's "Heartless" by the Fray

Time flies and Smokey is still having fun !!

Smokey Robinson is in the business for decades. I still remember those Sundays afternoons when my father used to play his vinyl of "Smokey Robinson & The miracles». When I listened to Smokey Robinson today I remembered immediately why I enjoyed it so much.

With his new album " Time flies when you're having fun" Smokey Robinson proves us that time never spoil real talent. With guests such as Joss Stone, India Arie or Santana, he is providing us a record just like only him can make with a contemporary touch and of course great lyrics ( it's not like we didn't know his writing skills since he wrote ones of the greatest songs ever ) , nice groove and smooth .

Romantic and smooth R&B is so lacking in today's music and Smokey is back to fix it. But he's not limited to ballads; Robinson shows us also how funky he can be on "Girlfriend," a mid-tempo ode to his love or "One Time". With "Please Don't Take Your Love," Legend Carlos Santana brings a bluesy touch where Robinson shows what singing is really about and sings in different languages. His cover of the Jackson 5 classic, "I Want You Back" is so far one of my favorite with his duet with India Arie " You're just my life». And his interpretation of "Don't Know Why", the first single of the album, can easily outshine Norah Jones. 50 years after his debuts Smokey Robinson is still having fun making music and I'm still having fun listening to it!!

Listen here to the full album "Time flies when you're having fun" ( The "I want you back" cover is the last one )

'Me and those dreaming " ears" of mine' are still waiting for D'Angelo....

Where is D’angelo?
2009 seems to be the year of all the comebacks Maxwell, Whitney, even Eminem .And then I asked myself where is " Mr Brown Sugar"?

I’ve been waiting all this time for D’Angelo’s third studio album just like you , and this year again nothing. We know he has been through a lot: pleading no contest to a felony cocaine-possession charge in 2005 and then a week later survived a car wreck then rehab.
In 2008, Virgin Records released a greatest-hits album which featured also a DVD that I still watch over and over again with guests musicians here and there but D’Angelo has been mostly absent from the scene. And then a new album has been announced titled "James River" with potential collaborators such as Prince, John Mayer, Cee-Lo Green, and Raphael Saadiq. Considering the fact that "Brown sugar "came out in 1995 and " Voodoo" five years later and that Maxwell also took a long time to be back ( not as long as D'angelo though) all I can do is keep waiting hoping for a masterpiece.

As most recent update Lindsay Guion, D’Angelo’s manager said that no collaborators have been confirmed. The artist is living and recording in Richmond,Virginia but also in New York, and he will deliver the tracks to his record company by September. Guion also said they have just signed a contract for a U.S. tour. In another words, we just have to keep waiting....

To help you wait here are two live videos of "Mr Brown Sugar"
