A decade without D'Angelo / Une Décennie sans D'Angelo

January 25th 2000 was the day Voodoo, D’Angelo’s sophomore album was released.I was just 15  years old.I know it must sound cheesy but I knew that I would love D'Angelo forever.

When you talk about Voodoo you talk about a debut at Number 1 at the US billboard 200 chart, a platinum album (1 700 000 records sold) , two Grammys ( Best R&B album and Bets Male Performance ) , one video which ranks #44 in VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Videos ( you see which one I’m talking about). The album was also ranked number 488 on Rolling Stone's November 2003 publication of the 500 greatest albums of all time, which made it one of only thirteen entries released in the 2000s to be included in the magazine's list. D’angelo has been considered than as a Neo Soul precursor. But some people had troubles defining the genre of Voodoo. In the album's EPK, D'Angelo said that Voodoo is "like a funk album. The natural progression of soul, the next step to soul is funk".

In my opinion, D’angelo is more than one musical genre. He’s funk, he’s soul, he can be Hip-Hop and he's definitely moret than the "naked guy" .I consider Voodoo as one of the best albums of the past decade. As much as I loved Brown sugar, Voodoo is a trip to cloud nine.D’angelo smooth voice and musical skills with the help of others artists ( Raphael Saadiq, Questlove ..)  provided us an album filled with spirituality, love, erotism (The video!!!!) but most of all a masterpiece, a gift for music lovers. Many artists have inspired themselves listening to D'Angelo sound ( even album cover yeah Trey Songz I'm looking at you)  It's been a decade now and the D'Angelo fans just like me are just waiting for the rumored ( for years now)  new D'Angelo album. 

This album was certainly one of the most important album that helped me confirm my musical preferences as I had it on repeat back in the days enjoying each melody, each whispering, each words ( when it was possible to hear them ;) ) Since Maxwell is back and Sade too, I only need Mr Brown Sugar to be back in 2010 to make this year greater.

Just last week,I was listening to Vivian Green's "Emotional Rollercoaster" wondering what ever happened to her.And I think she heard me cause few days after, "Beautiful" appeared.I really want to think that she's maybe working on a follow up to Vivian released in 2005.But one thing is sure, she still got her vocal abilities and it feels good to hear her again.

La semaine dernière, je me suis replongée dans ma discographie de Vivian Green et je succombais de nouveau en écoutant son "Emotional Rollercoaster".Je me suis alors demandé ce qu'elle était devenue.Par miracle (oui oui !!) elle a entendu mon message et quelques jours après, apparaissait "Beautiful".J'espère vraiment que c'est un signe du retour de l'artiste car il est évident qu'elle n'a rien perdu de sa voix depuis son dernier opus Vivian sorti en 2005.

Et vu les guests présents, je pense que cet album a un énorme potentiel ( Je n'ai jamais été décue par Gorillaz de toute facon ) et le premier single est tout simplement génial.J'ai hâte d'entendre tout l'album!! Maybe she doesn't realize how much good real Music miss her and I do too!!

On se demande tous où est passé Miss Lauryn Hill. Elle était très attendu pour sa tournée Européene l'été dernier mais celle ci fut annulée. Quel plaisir de la voir chanter au Raggamuffin Festival en Nouvelle Zélande la semaine dernière.Est ce le signe d'un retour? Je ne sais pas, j'en doute même mais une chose est sure je ne vois aucune "artiste" de nos jours qui lui arrive à la cheville.

Thanks to a Twitter friend of mine, I've been introduced to his music and I was just amazed by the songs.Like his fellow Boston phenomenon Eli "Paperboy" Reed, Jesse Dee is a Soul man, he's also a Blues man but above all that he's a talented man!He released his fist album Bittersweet Batch released last year is just pure "Soul Food".And actually it's more "sweet" than "bitter", 12 songs and everything is there: it's bluesy, it's soulful. I remember when I was younger ( not that I'm old lol ), Sundays were the days when my dad used to play all his records or vinyls, from Marvin Gaye to Barry White , Quincy Jones or Ray Charles ( I think he still does that).He is the reason why I love so much Soul, Blues and Jazz music.And still now, sometimes he just calls me and asks "Do you remember this song or artists? Can you find it for me?" and when we are together we talk about Music ( among others things ) and I still learn so much from him.I still spend my Sundays listening to Nina Simone, Muddy Waters Etta James or Ray Charles. I wanted to share this with you with a little compilation of some of the artists, legends my dad loves that are now gone .Hope you'll enjoy!!

I don't know what she's drinking but she should bottle it and sell it!She is GORGEOUS and looks exactly the same than 10 years ago. What do you think ?

VIDEO Jay Z feat Swizz Beatz " On To The Next One"

I gotta admit that when I first heard the song on "The Blueprint 3" I found it good but just that.But now that I've seen the video I'm feeling addicted to it. Despite all the controversy ( Jay Z has been called satanist, illuminati and so many things due to the obvious religious references and blah blah ) I think it's pure art. The director Anthony Mandler ( the same for the "Young Forever" video) just did a great job. And I love it even more than the song!! What do you think ?

A la première écoute, je m'étais dit " Ah pas mal la chanson, c'est quand même Swizz Beatz à la production" mais sans plus.Voila que débarque la vidéo!! Petit bijou artistique en noir et blanc ( réalisé par Anthony Mandler, le même qui a réalisé la vidéo de "Young Forever" ) la vidéo a déja fait couler beaucoup d'encre. Certains ont traité Jay Z de sataniste, d'illuminati et j'en passe vu les nombreuses références réligieuses.Quoi qu'il en soit, je ne savais pas qu'il était possible d'aimer une vidéo plus que la chanson elle même.Et vous qu'est ce que vous en pensez?
